Thieves steal $140,000 worth of handbags from a Louis Vuitton store in Brazil

Louis Vuitton unveiled a sprawling Cruise 2017 collection in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, earlier this week, but the news from the South American country wasn’t entirely positive for the French luxury brand. According toNew York Time, Vuitton’s store in Rio’s upscale Ipanema neighborhood was held up Tuesday morning, just two days after the attention-grabbing spectacle.

Reports indicate that the thieves made off with more than $140,000 in purses in the early hours of the morning; no products from other categories were mentioned. For reference, these are 36 of the brand’s popular City Steamer bags, which retail for $3850 for the medium size and are smooth leather.

Brazilian authorities did not stipulate which bags were taken, but Vuitton released a handful of Cruise 2017 bags for general purchase immediately after Saturday’s show. The bags are only available online in the US, but the NYT’s Vanessa Friedman speculates that local enthusiasm and attention for the show may have influenced the crooks, and the occasion certainly could have made for a timely success. was more attractive.

If you see any Louis Vuitton bags available from Brazilian sellers with prices that seem too good to be true, don’t say we didn’t warn you.
