Like a magpie, I can’t get away from the bling. Although it’s been almost two decades (don’t count to date me!) since I last coveted a Prada bag, the truth is that my collection used to have several.I even fondly remember a special floral print nylon one that Mr. PurseBop bought me on one of our first trips to Italy.
Since then, I have traveled extensively in OrangeLand, consumed a lot of Coco, and flirted with Dior and Louis Vuitton. But there’s nothing like glitter to draw me in. And be sure he did.
I confess, I discovered this blingy beauty on Instagram because, honestly, I haven’t followed all the Prada news. The Prada bag boots I bought in November certainly put the brand back on my radar. I did study the 2000 Reissue in great detail during my visit to pick up the boots. I never thought that just two months later one would be mine!
This is not just any 2000 Reissue. In my books, it might as well be called a masterpiece. It’s no secret that my love for all things shiny runs deep. It started with an obsession with collecting first Judith Leiber and then Chanel Swarovski Miniauderies. And like all great loves, my infatuation with all things shiny evidently knows no bounds.
Say hello to my new crystal Prada 2000 Reissue…
Stay tuned for Part II @pursebop
To be clear, this was not an easy acquisition. My discovery of the Special Edition Re-issue arrived the day before Christmas. I vividly remember sneaking around making calls on Christmas Eve before closing to track down this cutie. Clearly, it’s not the best time. To my dismay (and probably no one’s surprise), they were completely sold out. There was a brief glimmer of hope as the Aspen store had one but understandably they said it was on backorder and they weren’t willing to ship it.
Then I started a search on Instagram and dedicated myself to learning everything I could… but no luck… yet! In the process I became an encyclopedia and an expert on this release. It was actually designed to be exclusive to a Prada pop-up store in Dubai. I guess with its tremendous popularity, Prada must have decided to send a very limited run to the United States. To give you an example of how scarce they were here, the Chicago boutique only got two!
I also found that it came in white and light pink, an almost blush option. But my heart was set on black to complement my bag boots and keep it in the “worry free” zone. Lord knows I have enough bags to stress me out, including my latest Birkin 25 Snow White.
There were rumors of a repeat in March, but he wasn’t willing to take that risk. Patience is not my middle name, at least when it comes to bags.
I made up my mind, this was made for me…so I started to imagine the outfits I would complete. The composition fáeasy and stress free it was music to my ears. The size was perfect enough to carry my iPhone and a few extras on a night out, whether it was jeans and a t-shirt, or a Chanel LBJ! The handle was ideal to carry in the hand or on the wrist. Only one word can sum up this elegant piece: PERFECTION!
In 2019, Prada began reissuing its popular styles from the early years, including the famous nylon shoulder bag and multipochette style from 2005(Read:The Prada Cult Multi Pochette bag returns). Since then, Prada has relaunched the iconic nylon clutch in every color imaginable and coveted by nearly every “It” girl and fashion influencer. With its enduring popularity, it’s no surprise that Prada has chosen to offer even more variations on the design, including this crystal-embellished beauty.
Instead of nylon, this brilliant deal is made from luxurious satin and will set you back $1,690, nearly double what the classic nylon version costs. But the sparkling gems come to those who splurge, I guess!
Famous fans of the raised crystal look include Khloe Kardashian, Jordyn Woods, and Leonie Hanne.
Those with an eye for all things glittery will be pleased to know that the Prada shoulder bag isn’t the only style given the glittery treatment. Prada also launched a crystal-embellished bucket bag, plus mini crossbody bags and a selection of shopper bags in different shades.
As for how to get your hands on the shiny 2000 Re-edition, as you may have guessed, the model is sold out on Prada’s website. You could wait for the possible repeat rumored to arrive in March, or alternatively, you could grab one of Prada’s other faux crystal designs before they’re all gone too!
What do you think of my ultra glam Prada bag? Are you a fan of the crystal look or do you prefer the classic 2000 Re-edition?
