Dior’s Cruise 2022 collection focuses on rethinking the purpose of fashion

When it comes to Dior, the brand is known for putting on a show, creating productions that perfectly showcase the overall feel of a collection while immersing the audience or viewer in a dream world. For Cruise 2022, Maria Grazia Chiuri left no detail untouched, and she performed the show at the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens, Greece, which was the ideal venue to showcase this collection.

The collection as a whole is focused on rethinking the purpose of fashion and Grazia Chiuri was inspired by the costumes of ancient Greece, using them as a starting point for some of the RTWs. Looking to these historical elements, Grazia Chiuri created a path for forward-thinking femininity, focusing on the movement for the modern woman and expertly blending the principles of art and athletics.

As for bags, a mix of both old and new shapes was seen on the runway, including the Bobby bag, Lady Dior and the iconic Dior Book Tote, seen in a new iteration designed together with Greek atelier Aristides Tzonevrakis. Using traditional Greek embroidery motifs, which can be seen in the video below, a stunning navy blue Book Tote with intricate white details was shown on the runway. Although the technique itself is traditionally Greek, this Book Tote perfectly embraces Dior’s Savoir Faire.

New to the collection, Grazia Chiuri puts the spotlight on a new silhouette, the bowling bag, showcasing the shape in quilted Cannage or smooth leather with contrasting trims and bold Christian Dior lettering. The bag will clearly be a big boost for the brand moving forward, and it shows up in a variety of bright colors like yellow and blue, as well as more muted tones like black and white. In terms of sizes, larger versions were presented as well as a smaller bowler hat. A patterned bowler hat also appeared on the catwalk, paying homage to the sport’s Greek tradition.
