Dior Pre-Fall 2020: Look to the future (aka Next Fall) with the latest collection

As we approach the end of the year, and indeed the decade, fashion is several steps ahead. Boutiques and department stores welcome the Cruise 2020 collections, with spring style one step behind. Most recently, however, Christian Dior preempted pre-fall 2020. To be fair, it (and Dior’s pre-fall collections in general) flew under the radar, with no lavish settings or exotic locales. Shown in studio style, designer Maria Grazia Chiuri interspersed her codes or statements about feminism and fashion.

When it comes to bags, you won’t find any really new directions, but there are variations in material. The camouflage, different forms of color, which is presented in the clothes is carried over to the accessories. Lumberjack plaid is back, and Dior’s oblique canvas logo permeates every look. Curiously, we didn’t see any Lady Dior. However, there is probably something for everyone. . . especially if you have liked the last two seasons.

Saddle Bag

The saddlebag rides one more season. Guitar straps are large and thick, accompanying a thinner hand strap. Leather and fabrics are options in the women’s collection. The edgy, space-age-vibe version of these bags seen, for example, on Kim Kardashian, was reserved for the men’s line.

Book Bag & Garden bag

In this collection, the book bag completed many outfits. Interestingly, all the models shown were the original size. Not a small or mini bag walked this catwalk. For those who like the look but want something a little different, there’s the garden bag we looked at last season. Also, while not a clutch, the slung-on-the-back messenger version is back.

30 Montaigne Collection

A year ago, when Dior previewed its pre-Fall 2019 collection, it introduced a new line of bags. Called the 30 Montaigne, it was a medium-sized feminine bag with a large CD clasp. Shown in logo and leather, it was simple with clean lines. At the time, Dior intended the 30 Montaigne to be a classic rather than a spectacleass. And she was and is.

For Cruise 2020, and hitting stores right now, it’s a new model of the 30 Montaigne. It is a bit more trapezoidal than the original and has a new detachable and adjustable chain. Being optionality a draw, this bag can be carried on the shoulder or crossbody.

So why write about this before fall 2020? Well, this version, among others, returns to the collection.

Don’t worry, mini-lovers. Although the 30 Montaigne line is mostly medium-sized, there seems to be a small one as well.
